Reversing Insulin Resistance

Reversing Insulin Resistance will allow you to reach optimal health. It's important that this is accomplished because if left untreated it can lead to Type 2 Diabetes, more issues with fertility, it can also jeopardize your health and well-being.

It deprives your body of energy, which is why you probably feel tired so often. It prevents weight loss and can cause depression if not properly treated and managed. Even in your best attempt to eat what you consider healthy and maybe get some exercise if your lucky enough to have the energy; your body is still working against you.

A glucose tolerance test can be performed by a doctor. The test includes fasting for 10 to 12 hours normally overnight. Then blood work is done to determine a starting point. You drink 75 grams of glucose. After two hours the test is repeated. This will confirm that your body is Insulin Resistance.

Reversing Insulin Resistance is done with a healthy diet of the right foods and regular exercise.

Metformin may also provide some assistance in the beginning, but I don't believe it's a long term solution.

Basic Principles for Reversing Insulin Resistance

  • Consulate a glycemic index for foods that are low GI foods. Examples are avocados, beans, lentils, yogurt, hummus, walnuts, tomatoes, cherries, grapefruits. Try to eat foods that have a low glycemic index (GI) this will help your body better use insulin and glucose for energy instead of storing it as fat.

  • Make sure you eat foods that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids; flaxseed or canola oil, wild salmon.

  • Decrease or eliminate and foodwith fructose or sucrose, make sure to read your labels as these can be hidden in sauces and dressings.

  • Drink lots of water daily.

  • Exercise on a regular basis as this helps to maintain balance.
