PCOS Blog Post: Smoking Is Harmful...Consider Quitting
November 22, 2009In the September 2009 issue of Women's Health Magazine a study conducted by The American Society for Reproductive Medicine estimates that 13% of infertility cases are connected to smoking. I didn't even realize women still smoke. I guess I never really thought about it; I don't smoke, my friends don't smoke, so I assumed women didn't smoke anymore. According to this study, tobacco is linked to your eggs deteriorating faster, increases the risk of early miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. It can also result in earlier menopause, about four years earlier than nonsmokers. The good news, if you do quit smoking, it will take about a year for your fertility to return to normal! Just another reason if you're a smoker you should quit, along with the outrageous cost for a pack of cigarettes and lung cancer. Hopefully this is the motivation you needed to finally kick your bad habit once and for all.
