PCOS Blog Post: The Holidays Are Coming

November 19, 2009

I'm so excited for the holiday season! It's one of my favorite times of year. Christmas music, gatherings with family and friends, chilly nights, and beautiful lights. Typically, with that comes an over indulgence in deserts.

Unfortunately, with all the joy and excitement in the back of my mind I am focused on gaining the dreaded few holiday pounds. However, going into this holiday season I've adopted a few new holiday resolutions. I'm choosing to look past all the deserts into the New Year, with my new goals in mind.

Don't get me wrong, I will not be avoiding the deserts but approaching them with more balance. I will make sure to get plenty of exercise. On days I know I have a party I will do an hour of cardio. Gets my heart rate up and keeps my metabolism going all day long.

As the holiday season gets closer I have set some goals for myself; hoping to make it a more memorable season.

My holiday goals:

  • Get an hour of cardio exercise five days a week while still maintaining my weight training.

  • Eat fewer deserts which means less sugar.

  • Eat a healthy snack before going to a party, so I'm less tempted by unhealthy options.

  • Always remember how great I feel, especially when I'm not eating sugar. Stay focused!

Make it a fantastic time of year by focusing on moderation and balance. What are your goals for this holiday season?
