PCOS Blog: High Fructose Corn Syrup
May 23, 2010I realize I've been posting a lot about the quality of food we are eating these days. Since, watching Food, Inc. I've devoted a lot of my research to finding ways to improve the foods we eat as I believe by eating wholesome foods we are improving our health! So, this brings my to high fructose corn syrup which contains no enzymes, vitamins, or minerals. The fructose found in high fructose corn syrup is mostly fructose that isn't bound to other sugars unlike sugars that occur naturally contain fructose that is bound to other sugars. The fructose in high fructose corn syrup interferes with the normal functions in our body. As like any additives it just should have never been added to food in the first place. As a consumer you do have a choice and slowly, but surely companies are starting to listen. For example, Hunt's Ketchup in now taking high fructose corn syrup out of it's recipe. Hunt's Ketchup will only have five simple ingredients tomatoes, sugar, vinegar, salt and other seasonings. It's a step in the right direction, it proves that companies are starting to listen and notice the demands consumers are making.
