PCOS Blog: Happiness and Stress
March 18, 2010 I've been thinking a lot lately about the direction I want my life to go. Where do I want to be in ten years? What do I want to be doing? What makes me happy? What aspects of my life are essential? I am happiest by controlling and minimizing the stress in my life. My overall health and well-being is directly impacted by my the stress I internalize. With my happiness and stress management in mind; I wrote a list of the things that make me the most happy in my life, that I wish I was able to do more of, all for various reasons. I'm very satisfied with my list. I encourage you to make a list as well, it's a helpful exercise to see it on paper. It made me really think about my priorities. My number one priority is time with my family and close friends, with my last one (number eleven) being a good haircut. Many were simple and few were materialistic, that isn't what makes me happy nor fulfilled. I want to spend as much time as possible enjoying my life! I know some may be skeptical in thinking, but I can't afford to do anything different because of my job, I need the money because of my monthly expenses. I realize that we all have to make a living, that's why we go to work, but I've also come to realize that making changes in my daily life (some might call them sacrifices) will be worth it in the long run. I've become a more conscience consumer, therefore buying less disposable goods and spending less money. I'm happier having more money in the bank, than more stuff. What does the stress get you? More stuff? A bigger place to live? More vacations? For me it comes down to priorities and my priority is living my life and happiness, not stress and more stuff. As a fellow woman with PCOS I hope you choose to effectively manage your stress and spend more time enjoying your life!
