PCOS Blog Post: The Importance of Losing Weight

February 16th, 2010

I realize weight loss isn't easy, but it is absolutely necessary for living a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life with PCOS. It is the single most important aspect that can change your life! It changes your outlook, your attitude, not to mention your overall health and well-being.

According to Dr. Christian S. Pope, DO, practices in New Bedford and Mattapoisett:

Obesity contributes substantially to reproductive and metabolic abnormalities in women with PCOS. Multiple studies have demonstrated that weight loss improves many of the signs and symptoms associated with the condition. Weight reduction has proven to improve pregnancy rates, decrease the growth of facial hair, and improve glucose and cholesterol levels. These beneficial changes have been shown in women with weight loss as little as 5 percent. Without doubt, the most important and successful treatment for women with PCOS is weight reduction.

Therefore, if reducing your PCOS symptoms and feeling better is a priority in your life. Start with weight loss. The list of benefits of weight loss are endless and include more than just diminishing your PCOS symptoms and increasing your chances of getting pregnant.

Try not to get overwhelmed when you think about how much weight you have to lose. Break it down, into smaller increments of five or ten pounds and focus on that! Need some ideas for ways to eat healthier!

Since, a healthy weight is vitally important in living a healthy life; make sure you are exercising regularly. Exercise helps you loose weight and it also helps maintaining weight easier.
