PCOS Blog Post: Sugar, Sugar, Sugar

January 8, 2010

First and foremost, Happy New Year! I apologize for not updating my blog sooner, however, with the holidays time just seemed to get away from me. I hope your holidays were wonderful!

Before I consider the true extent of my new year's resolution, I intend to make. I have to rid my body of all the sugar I consumed over the holidays. Walking into my parent's house, the captivating smells of freshly baked sugar cookies and homemade bread coming from the kitchen, reminded me of my childhood Christmases.

Needless to say, my no sugar approach to the holidays didn't exactly go as planned. It's so much easier to say "NO" and avoid sugar in my normal, everyday routine. Unfortunately, even with my best intentions of self control during the holidays, it wasn't as easy as I had hoped. Being fair and honest to myself, I didn't eat as much sugar as I have in past years. So, progress was made. It's so easy to fall into the delicious smells, I mentally associate with holiday traditions from my childhood, yet so difficult to have just one. I think we can all relate.

I'm not even disappointed in myself, all right maybe slightly. I'm also very pleased with my progress. The 2009 holiday season was a learning experience. Once, I started eating a cookie here and there I knew I couldn't completely stop, but I could make more conscience decisions and that's what I did. Honestly, I'm not angry with myself, as it has already come and gone.

I'm not perfect, I'm human and just try to make the best choices I can. As I get back into my normal eating and exercise routine I will be sure to update you shortly on my plans and goals for 2010.
