Insulin Resistance
Insulin Resistance occurs often in women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is normally responsible for weight gain and it can also cause your ovaries not to release an egg. It is very dangerous if left untreated as it can lead to Type 2 Diabetes which comes with many other health issues.
In a body that adequately processes and uses insulin, normal levels of insulin occur in the blood stream and are used for energy. If this doesn't happen it is stored as fat in your body.
A simple explanation for this; you eat a meal that is high in bad carbohydrates which your body is unable to process. So, the insulin in your body can not convert it into energy for your body to use because your cells are very sensitive to glucose. This is when your body stores it as fat. An indicator that you might be Insulin Resistance is if after you eat a meal, especially lunch you feel tired and if you have the time you probably would take a nap.
An excessive amount of insulin in your body is responsible for your system being out of balance. It's also responsible for the ovaries being over stimulated. This causes the production of too much male hormone, testosterone. Then your ovaries do not release an egg. This is more than likely responsible for your weight gain or inability to lose weight along with your inability to conceive. Don't worry it is treatable and reversible.
It's important that an issue such as this isn’t taken lightly. If you choose to ignore it thinking it will go away or just fix itself; I am telling you this won't happen. Follow a PCOS-friendly diet along with regular exercise; both are vital in controlling insulin levels.
